Pinguicula - Butterworts |
| Venus Flytraps |
| Pinguiculas thrive in wet, sunny spots throughout the southeast U.S. These butterworts trap insects using a flypaper type trap. The leaves are covered with a sticky mucilage that traps insects that mistake it for nectar or water. When insects become trapped the leaves have the ability to roll up on the edges forming a pool of digestive liquid. The leaves do not roll up entirely and when the digestive process is complete the leaves unroll to a flat position. |
